Inspired by the concept of flat packing and home assembly made popular by companies like IKEA we finally made a bike out of two wooden plates. Hence its name; “The Sandwich Bike”. Just like an IKEA product the bike will be delivered in a flat cardboard box and can be assembled at home with a single tool, instructed by an exploded view, reducing distribution and assembly costs. Basten Leijh, Imre Verhoeven and Pieter Janssen, all working in different regions of the design industry, joined and came up with the idea to put a bicycle on the market that is useful, trendy and twice as cheap to produce, so that when people buy the product for a regular price there are enough means left to donated one to people who cannot afford one. This way the stylish are encouraged to do good.
Unfortunately, someone decided to steal the bike from the exhibition, so if anyone sees the bike, please return it (and the owner preferably in a flatpack).
